Central
Coast Show 'n Shine, Tuggerah
25th
February, 2007.
It is with great pleasure that the NSW Torana Club announces that the drought conditions engulfing NSW have been alleviated due to our attendance at the Central Coast Show ‘n’ Shine held at Tuggerah on Sunday, 25 February 2007.
The day started with the scheduled meeting point at McDonalds Thornleigh, which left at 7.05 a.m. with 8 Torries in tow led by our intrepid Runs Co-ordinator, Bobby Byrnes. Greg & Lexa had decided to do the early shift and take up position at Tuggerah upon sunrise and duly parked their Torrie in the designated Club display zone. First call of the day was from Rick & Sharyn Longdon to inform us that, no they will not make the 7.15 a.m. departure point at Thornleigh, but due to a lightning, feisty journey in their trusty Torrie they arrived just in the nick of time.
An uneventful trip up the F3 Freeway ensured a timely arrival at Tuggerah at 7.50 a.m. After the mad positioning of Torries, unpacking of said Torries etc. etc. etc. the gang slipped into the comfy chairs for a social, lazy Sunday (typical car show kind of stuff).
The Central Coast All Ford Club puts this car show on each year, and all monies raised are donated to CANTEEN.
In 2006, so many cars turned up for this show that approximately 150 had to be turned away. This was not to be in 2007. A weather forecast of rain and some early cloud in the morning obviously kept a large number of entrants away, however, the Holdens had not lost any of their numbers, but the Fords appeared to be lacking on the day (there must be some reason for this?).
Happenings noticed during the course of the day: the Secretary of the Club took advantage of the bargains to be had at the adjacent Supa Centa and had quickly filled up the boot of one white/black Torrie! Rick Longdon, after waving goodbye to his wife, Sharyn, could soon smell the scent of a smouldering credit card. Scott Davidson was one happy Torrie owner turning up in his newly purchased Chrome Yellow, LH Torrie. Reno Emanuele displayed the performance of his Torrie stereo system and at the same time his total lack of taste in music! Michael Aldridge gave us a very accurate count down to his impending wedding to fellow Club member, Lisa Kelly. Yes Lisa, Mick was on his best behaviour all day – promise! Larry Sullivan filled us in on the continuing restoration of his “one day we’ll see it” Papaya Torrie (for those of you who have not seen it in the flesh, yes it does exist!). Paul Gilmore’s son, Joshua, exhibited his unique way of chamoising Torries (a panel beater’s delight here!). Rob Farnsworth and his daughter, Tash, were kept at arm’s length after telling us of their current bout of the flu! Associate Member, Philip Taylor, dropped in to say hello showing us pictures of his trashed investment property that the previous tenants had left him – poor Phil.
Unfortunately, at about 11.30 a.m. the weather started to close in and by 12.30 p.m. the decision had been made by the troops to pull up stumps and go (it must be noted here that, Greg, in his role as President was quite happy to stay on until the end of the proceedings enduring the woeful conditions, but thought it would be proper to retreat with the troops!).
From all accounts it was an uneventful journey home by the members of the Club, even though it was a little damp! It’s always a bit disappointing when Club runs are disrupted with inclement weather, however, the members of the NSWTC always look on the bright side and enjoyed the shortened day regardless.
Greg.
