Fighterworld
22nd July 2007

The days run started off at Thornleigh McDonalds with grey overcast weather. We had a good turn out from club members who we eager to catch up and drive their Toranas.  After a light snack and car talk we headed off towards our destination, Fighterworld at Williamtown.

Now this was my first official run as the ‘run leader’ so I wanted everything to be perfect, unfortunately this wasn’t to be the case but more about that later.

We left Thornleigh about 8.30am and headed north on the F3, picking up Greg and Lexa, Paul and Justin at the twin service stations at Warnervale.  The Toranas looked great travelling down the highway and even the weather improved. The Club President took responsibility for the sunshine and obviously has connections in high places.

Next stop was Hexham where we joined by members of the Hunter Valley Torana Club. After the regulatory chit-chat and inspection of cars (lifting of bonnets etc), we continued onward to Williamtown. So far so good.

Now it would be very embarrassing if the ‘run leader’ were to get lost or take the wrong turn, but I can assure you this was not the case.  After approaching the Williamtown airport I thought it would be a great opportunity to inspect the airport, so we turned left before Fighterworld.  After a quick circuit of the airport which was much appreciated and welcomed by members, we resumed the designated run.  When approaching the entrance to Fighterworld, the ‘run leader’ missed the entry due to the glaring sun in his eyes (which the President previously took credit for I might add).  This must have also affected everyone else because they missed the turn off as well. After a quick ‘U’ turn and some laughter we were safely in the car park of Fighterworld.

Members seemed to enjoy the visit to Fighterworld which is like a big boy’s toy shop. Want more could you want, planes, jets, prop engines, jet engines, guns, cannons and machine guns (did I mention they had guns and engines).  This seemed to build up our appetites and next stop was the Junction Inn at Raymond Terrace where we enjoyed some fine food and liquid refreshment.

After lunch said our goodbyes to the Hunter Valley Torana Club members, and then had a leisurely drive back to our dispersal point at Warnervale.
